Expedition

Yesterday, I went shooting with my brother-in-law and my father-in-law at the Reifsnider Conservation Area near Wright City, MO.  My father-in-law brought his newly purchased, government surplus, M-1 Garand rifle.  His model was produced in 1955 by the Springfield Armory.  The rifle weighs in at 9 1/2 pounds - not the easiest thing to carry. For more information check out this U.S. Army Training film from 1943!  My brother-in-law brought along his M-14, another Springfield rifle, and a Colt AR-15. I had two goals for the trip:

1. Do not kill any living person or animal.
2. Hit the target.
   

I am happy to report that I met both of my goals!  My number one was met easily by calling a "cease fire"  with the other gun owners present. No one was in danger of getting killed anyway. The second goal was met by a different means.  I typically do everything in my life right-handed: write, swing a baseball bat, play guitar, etc.  However, I learned that my left eye is dominant so it makes it easier to shoot left-handed.  Who knew?  I tried shooting right-handed and could not look down the sights of the rifle. I also found that I have a new appreciation for our military of the past and present.
